Biography

Slave-owner on St Kitts, one of the 'Citizens of the World', and co-owner of the Bance Island slave-trading factory in West Africa. Founder of the Boyd family of baronets, and father of Sir John Boyd, the 1st bart. (q.v.).

  1. Will of Augustus Boyd merchant of London [and Lewisham] [made in 1763] proved 11/09/1765. He left an annuity of £800 p.a to his wife Lucy payable out of the Fountains or Castle plantation and secured on all his St Kitts property. He alluded to the estates left to his son John by his [John's] maternal grandmother Elizabeth Henderson.
