Sir John Boyd 1st Bart.

1718 - 1800

London merchant and East India Co. director, slave-owner on St Kitts, where his estates must have included Boyd's as well as Fountain: only the latter is specified in his will. He has an entry in the ODNB as 'merchant.'

  1. Will of Sir John Boyd of Danson, Kent [made in 1797] proved 05/02/1800. Under the will he left an annuity of £1200 p.a. to his wife Dame Catherine Boyd, secured on his [unnamed] estates on St Kitts except Fountain, which he had settled on his son John on his [the son's] marriage: he provided that if his St Kitts estates could not support the annuity, then it would be funded out of other estates left to his son John, except Danson House. He left £10,000 each to his three daughters Lucy, Sarah and Catherine, not payable while Britain was at war but only five years afterwards; and an annuity of £400 p.a. to his son James.
