Son and executor of Adam Wallace Elmslie (q.v.), grandson of John Elmslie senior (q.v.) and father-in-law of Thomas John Barnardo, 'Dr Barnardo', who married his daughter Sarah Louise ('Syrie') in 1873. William Elmslie was founder of a firm of loss adjusters which became William Elmslie & Son, and which was still extant in the late 1980s.
