Patrick Colquhoun

???? - 1820

Successively tobacco merchant and West India merchant in Glasgow and promoter of 'policing' in London. His ODNB entry refers obliquely to the bankruptcy of his firm of Colquhoun & Ritchie in Glasgow ('Ironically, by 1788 it had become clear that his own business was unable to adapt to new trading conditions'), but prior to that he was rich enough to build Kelvingrove House.
