Biography

Army officer, legatee under his brother George Smith's will made in 1824 of one moiety of an estate in Mauritius called Jacote [sp?] subject to a payment of 20,000 dollars to Mme Contesse Dupuy from the revenue of the estate or immediately from his [the legatee's] purse. His wife was the grand-daughter of Thomas Hankey of Fetcham Park. Online genealogical sources show him as the son of George Smith (d. 1823), Chief Justice of Grenada, then Trinidad and finally of Mauritius; if so his sister Sarah married Robert Campbell Scarlett, 2nd Baron Abinger.

  1. Burial at West Brompton Cemetery 1879 aged 79. He left £25,000 in personalty.
