Biography

John Townson of London, London merchant and MP, co-financed the development of the Belleaire estate of James Mackie (q.v.) in exchange for a half-interest in the estate. He had been a Director of the East India Co.

  1. Will of John Townson of Grays Inn proved 18/03/1797. He left in trust an annuity of £500 p.a. to Mrs Sarah Belcher (which in two codicils he tried to clarify as in fact £250 p.a.), together with his leasehold house at 18 Charlotte Street Bedford Square, and his residuary estate to John Stuart of Hampstead (q.v.).
