Biography

  1. Rachel Lawrence, daughter of Daniel [sic - David] and Judith Bernard, born 27/06/1804 and baptised in St James 12/09/1804.

  2. Her brother-in-law John Parnther registered enslaved people in St James as her guardian in 1817 and later as her attorney.

  3. Rachel Lawrence Bernard was buried in Ross on Wye, Herefordshire, 09/03/1832 age 27. The will of Rachel Lawrence Bernard, spinster of Cheltenham, was proved in London in 1832.

Rachel Lawrence Bernard now residing at Cheltenham, spinster.

My brothers William Rhodes Bernard and Thomas James Bernard to be executors.

To my brother William Rhodes Bernard all my eight share and interest being one twelfth of a moity in a sugar estate in St James, Jamaica, called Eden and also of a piece of land called Hanover Mountain in Hanover, Jamaica.

To my brother Thomas James Bernard all my twelfth part in a piece of land called Hermitage in Westmoreland, Jamaca.

To my brother Samuel Edward Bernard my one twelfth part of a lot of land called Upton Stables in the parish of [blank] in Jamaica.

To my dear mother Judith Bernard the following Negroes now on a plantation called Bona Vista: Anny Rosina Margaret Mary Ann Robert and Sarah.

All my money in the public funds or government securities equally between my mother and my three brothers and my three sisters as tenants in common.

All rest and residue to my brother William Rhodes Bernard.
