Margaret Lincoln

Small-scale slave-owner on St Vincent, with 15 enslaved people in Kingstown registered by her attorney Charles Shepphard in 1817. The attestation of her will described her as 'spinster' despite her characterisation in the will itself of her residuary heir Alexander McKenzie as her son. Margaret Lincoln was a legatee and extramarital partner of William McKenzie of St Vincent (q.v.), and most likely a free woman of colour.

1. Will of Margaret Lincoln of Southampton Place, Euston Square proved 03/01/1833. She left £100 each to four nephews and niece, £25 each to three of her godchildren and £50 to a fourth. She left £25 to 'my servant Johanna who was formerly my slave and who was manumitted by me', and to her 'slave' Peggy £25 and her manumission. She left £200 to the Methodist Missionary Society. Her residuary heir was her son Alexander McKenzie of 5 Southampton Place Euston Square.
