Awarded part of the compensation for the enslaved people on Waterloo estate on St Vincent and counterclaiming also for the Orange Hill estate on the same island. Given as Alex. McKenzie of Southampton Place, Euston Square, bond creditor for £1000 with £125 interest due thereon to 10/05/1835 in both claims. Distinct from Sir Alexander Mackenzie bart. (q.v.), who was awarded the compensation for Tourama under St Vincent no. 448 and whose mother Katharine Mackenzie wrote in pursuit of both St Vincent nos. 449 and 450.
Almost certainly the Alexander McKenzie of 71 Cornhill shown in the will of William McKenzie of St Vincent (q.v.) as the natural son of William McKenzie and Margaret Lincoln.
Alexander McKenzie, unmarried, age 52, Fundholder, born West Indies, was living at 10 Euston Place, St Pancras, in 1851. He married Mary Stewart Craig at Old Church, St Pancras, 18/03/1857. In 1861 he was at 211 Euston Road, age 62, Fundholder, born West Indies, with Mary S. McKenzie, age 54, born Scotland. At the same address in 1871, a widower, born St Vincent, with his aunt Mary McKenzie, age 60, born Ayrshire, Scotland, nephews John Watson age 24 and William Watson age 23, neices Mary Watson age 25, Susannah Watson age 21, Jemima Watson age 19 and Bertha Watson age 13, plus a visitor, George Parr. At the same address in 1881 with nephew William Watson, nieces Marianne and Bertha Watson, George Parr and a female servant.
The will of Alexander McKenzie late of 211 Euston Road who died 08/11/1883 at 211 Euston Road was proved by Margaret Lincoln Watson and Louisa Susannah Watson both of 211 Euston Road, spinsters, the executrixes. Personal estate £7,482 19s 10d.
