Biography
Slave-owner on Nevis.
- Will of Martin Madan [late of Nevis in America but now] of London proved 20/03/1704. He left: his son Martin Madan £2000 in addition to the Russell estate 'with the negroes thereunto belonging which [sic]' he had and his wife had recently settled on him; his daughter Penelope £3000 over and above what he had provided for her in the same settlement; £2000 to his son James Russell Madan over and above the two plantations on Nevis settled on him; and £2500 to his son Richard over and above his settlement. His executors were Joseph Martyn merchant of London and his [Martyn's] two sons-in-law William Fellowes and Thomas Andrews. The will identified his mother-in-law as Dame Penelope Russell.
