Edgar Corrie

???? - 22nd Mar 1862

Biography

Broker of London, not apparently a slave-owner in his own right, but appearing in the compensation records as acting for Thomas Corrie (q.v.) of Edinburgh in the latter's claim for compensation for the ensalved people on the Lower Quarter estate on Tobago, and later acting as agent in the sale of the Lower Quarter estate in 1842. Edgar Corrie was also appointed as the executor under the will of John Malcom of Argyle Estate in Jamaica c. 1830. He was the son of Edgar Corrie (d. 1819), the original partner of John Gladstone's (q.v.) as corn-factors in Liverpool (the elder Edgar Corrie had acted as agent and possibly consignee in Liverpool for the Jamaica slave-owner James Stothert of Cargen).

  1. William and Edgar Corrie were bankrupt in 1826, when William was of Liverpool and Edgar of London. Edgar Corrie recovered sufficiently to leave £30,000 on his death, formerly of Mincing Lane but late of Vale Lodge Leatherhead 22/03/1862.
