Ancestry.com, Oxford University Alumni, 1500-1886 [database online] [the question-mark is in the original]. There are other clergymen called John West at this time, but it was presumably his sister (the daughter of John West of Jamaica) at whose marriage to David Laing this Rev. John West officiated in 1824. CCEd [database online] Person ID 40815 for Rev. John West of Exeter College Oxford has no family background but shows him as curate for Huntspill (20/04/1824) and Vicar Evercreech with Chesterblade 16/07/1825.
