Biography

  1. Elizabeth Baldie, "free woman of colour", in a long-term relationship with Andrew Reddie with whom she had seven children. In his will, written in 1815 and sworn in Jamaica in 1820, Reddie stated that he had previously conveyed Redbrook in Hanover to Baldie "in the perfect confidence that she will bequeath the same to her children." He named their children as Margaret, Anna, George, Elizabeth, Catherine, Isabella and Mary.

  2. Margaret Reddie, Anna Reddie, George Reddie and Elizabeth Reddie were baptised in Hanover 30/11/1808. Their mother may be the Elizabeth (with no surname given) baptised on the same day, the preceeding entry. Catharine and Isabella Reddie, "quadroons", baptised in Hanover 11/09/1811. Mary Reddie, daughter of Andrew Reddie Esquire by Elizabeth Baldie, was baptised in Hanover 20/02/1816.

  3. Elizabeth Baldie, age 50, "quadroon", was living in Lucea in the Hanover census of 1823 with George Reddie, age 19, "quadroon", Catherine Reddie, age 15, "quadroon" and Isabella Reddie, age 13, "quadroon".
