Son and trustee of Sir Charles Oakeley 1st bart, Governor of Madras (1751-1826), and co-claimant with his brother William (1798-?) and Thomas Hinckley. Sir Charles Oakeley had been mortgagee-in-possession of Bunker Hill.
Sir Charles Oakeley had financed the West India mercantile business of two of his son-in-laws, Roger Kynaston of Witham Grove Essex (the husband of Georgiana) and George Reid junior, of Watlington Hall Norfolk (the husband of Louisa).
Edward Oakeley born 09/11/1796, one of 13 children of Sir Charles Oakeley and Helena Beatson. In 1861 he was shown as living as a lodger in New Bond Street, aged 64, 'Esquire, being the son of a Bart.', born Shrewsbury. Will of Edward Oakeley formerly of Coed Talon near Mold Flint and of 61 New Bond Street but late of 4 Charles Street St James who died 08/12/1870 near Burton-upon-Trent proved 01/02/1871 by Sir Charles William Atholl Oakeley of 45 Russell Square and Willam Edward Oakeley of Plas Tan y Bwlch, the Nephews and executors, effects under £14,000.
