Biography

Son of John and Ann Kensington of London, partner in London West India merchant firm of Kensington & Paine (q.v.) with Cornelius Paine. Edward's father John Kensington was the half brother of Charles Kensington (d. 1807) and thus Edward was the cousin of Charles's sons John Larkins Kensington and Charles Snell Kensington: John Pooley Kensington was Edward's brother.  

  1. 1841 census shows Edward Kensington merchant aged 70 living in Lee Road Plumstead Chartlon next Woolwich with wife Sophia 65 and Edward (30) Barrister and Hannah (25).

  2. Baptised 26/02/1771 at St Thomas the Apostle, City of London, son of John and Ann Kensington. Married Sophia Brown 07/05/1796 at St Vedast Foster Lane. Death-date shown in context of announcement concerning Kensington & Paine partnership 31/12/1841: the firm continued thereafter.  Buried at St Leonard Streatham aged 70, 01/12/1841.

  3. John Farrer Kensington, son of Edward Kensington, who continued as partner in Kensington & Paine after 1841, left effects under £20,000 on his death 19/01/1869 formerly of Charlton in Kent but late of Exmouth.

  4. Edward Kensington was also a party to the Chancery suit of Furlonge v Kensington, into which the awards for Duberys (Montserrat 102) and Bugby Hole (110B) were paid.
