Richard Lytcott Hicks

1810 - 1836

Biography

Awarded the compensation for Hicks estate on Nevis. To date, neither his parentage nor his path to compensation has been traced with confidence. The estate had been settled on a different Richard Lytcott Hicks (q.v., under Richard Lytcott Hicks Esq.) on the latter's marriage in 1780: this man had died c. 1786, and was probably the grandfather of the man of this entry.

  1. Thompson Hicks of the parish of St Clement Dane m. Sarah Lytcott of Epsom August 23 1746 at St Anne and St Agnes. The Clay Hill estate was settled on their only son Richard Lytcott Hicks on his marriage in 1780. Richard Lytcott Hicks, son of Thompson Hicks of Epsom, late[?r] of St James, Nevis d. 1786 at sea on his passage from Nevis.

  2. The Richard Lytcott Hicks of this entry, born 01/1810, and died 10/01/1836 aged 26, marker at St George Gingerland, married Georgina Eliza, dau of Edward Huggins junior.

  3. The will of Ann Ram Wilson widow [formerly of Phillimore Place, and also of Earls Terrace in Kensington and since of Hastings in Sussex but now] of Higham Suffolk [made in 1832] was proved 02/04/1838. In the will she commented that her grandson Richard L. Hicks was well-provided for, and therefore she left him £300 and his grandfather's plate distinguished by his grandfather's arms or crest while she left the remainder of her property to her daughters Fanny Wilson and Lucy Wilson. The will identified Richard L. Hicks's mother as her [the testator's] daughter-in-law [probably step-daughter] Fanny Hicks, formerly of Brussels but then in London. Ann Ram Wilson must have been the remarried widow of Richard Lytcott Hicks Esq., and the evidence perhaps suggests that Fanny Hicks was the natural daughter of Richard Lytcott Hicks Esq.
