John Bradley

John Bradley was the awardee in 41 small claims in St Kitts, all contested (and worth a little over £1,548 in total). The Slave Compensation Commissioners had advised him to file counterclaims, since the original claimants had assigned the compensation to him. The London firm of Bartrum & Pretyman (q.v.) was described as his 'London attornies.' It appears likely that Bradley was in St Kitts and that he was buying up small claims at a discount.

1. Death "Lately, in Chester, after a short illness, aged 15, Margaret Gowan Bradley, daughter of John Bradley, Esq. of St. Kitts."

2. John Bradley was shown as one of the executors of the will made in 1840 of William Gowan (d. 1841), when he was given as domiciled in St Kitts. Nothing further of him has yet been traced.
