Biography

Francis Ford Pinder of Watford and later Bath, born Barbados, son of Chief Judge William Pinder and Ann Hothersal, awarded the compensation for Airy Hill as co-trustee of the marriage settlement of Elizabeth B. Senhouse (née Spooner), and almost certainly also awarded the compensation as owner of Hothersal in Barbados.   

  1. Married (1) Elizabeth Christian Maynard and (2) Elizabeth Senhouse, daughter of William Senhouse surveyor-general of the Leeward Islands. Will of Francis Ford Pinder of Gay Street Bath Somerset proved 17 February 1843.

  2. Among the children with Elizabeth Maynard was the Rev. John Hothersall Pinder. Born Barbados, 27 April, 1794. After school at Charterhouse and university at Cambridge (1812-16), ordination as a deacon (1818) and priest (1819), returned to Barbados. Chaplain at Codrington plantation, 1818-27, Principal of Codrington College, 1829-35, Principal of Wells Theological College, 1840-65, Precentor of Wells Cathedral, 1840-68, Prebendary of Wells, 1840-52, Canon Residentiary, 1852-68. Died 16 April 1868 at West Malvern. Married Ann Brathwaite Gibbons, daughter of Scawen Kenrick Gibbons (II) [q.v.].
    Other children included the 3rd son Francis Ford Pinder (1803-1861) and the 4th son, Humphrey Senhouse Pinder (1805-1888). He was the author of, among other works, the proslavery Advice to Servants; being five Family Lectures delivered to Domestic Slaves in the island of Barbadoes, in the Year 1822 (London, 1824), favourably reviewed by the Christian Remembrancer, 6 (1824), pp. 151-4.

T71/900 Barbados claim nos. 5288 (Airy Hill) and 5310 (Hothersal). The latter was made in the name of Francis F. Pinder, and could conceivably be the Rev. Francis Ford Pinder (1804-1861), Rector of Gosforth, son of the Francis Ford Pinder who died in 1843 by his second marriage.
