Brother of Charles and John M'Garel (each of whom q.v.), and co-owner of the Uniform and Bank Hall estates in Demerara. Peter McGarel had been in Demerara at the time of the 1817 Slave Registration.
Peter M'Garel esquire of Larne County Antrim subscribed £5000 to the Belfast and Ballymena railway in 1845. He was living at Main Street, Larne, in the census of 1851, with his wife Helena and brother John, occupation "magistrate" and year of marriage 1822.
The will of Peter McGarel late of Larne who died 28/06/1859 at Larne was proved 01/08/1859 by Charles McGarel, effects under £80,000; he left a further £49,195 in personalty in Ireland.
