Biography

Awarded the compensation for the enslaved people on Mount Pleasant in St Mary with her husband Thomas Robert Vermont (q.v.), who claimed 'in right of wife.' Born in Jamaica c. 1815 and resident there in the 1830s, but in Britain by 1851.

  1. In 1851 Ann Johnson Vermont aged 37 born Jamaica was living in White Hart Lane, Hayes with her husband Thomas R Vermont aged 48 'gentleman, proprietor of houses and land, magistrate on Jamaica', born Martinique, and their six children, four of whom aged 9 to 17 were born in Jamaica and two of whom aged 4 and 6 were born in Hayes (implying the family moved to Britain between 1842 and 1845). In 1861, Ann J Vermont 'wife', aged 46 landholder was living at 10 Oxford Terrace Peckham with two sons. In 1881 Ann J Vermont widow aged 64 'Income for landed property' was living at 149 Bird-in-Bush Road Peckham with son Alick.

  2. Will of Ann Johnson Vermont late of 10 Oxford Terrace Old Kent Road Surrey who died 23/01/1833 proved 22/06/1883, personal estate £136.

  3. Barnet Isaacs (q.v.) was shown as late of 10 Oxford Terrace Bird-in-Bush Road Peckham on his death in 1870: his widow Anna was given as 62 Great Prescott Street.
