Awarded part of the compensation for the enslaved people on Gunthorpe on Antigua, with her brother-in-law James Gunthorpe (q.v.), as executors of her deceased husband Rev. W. Gunthorpe.

  1. William Gunthorpe of St Michaels' Southampton married Alicia daughter of Josias Jackson at All Saints Southampton 28/1/1807. Jane Austen knew the couple and predicted unhappiness: 'He swears, drinks, is cross, jealous, selfish & Brutal - the match makes her family unhappy and has occasioned his being disinherited.'   

  2. Will of Rev. William Gunthorpe of Bath proved 13/04/1826. The William Gunthorpe of Antigua whose will was proved 14/12/1807 was the Rev. William Gunthorpe's father.

  3. In 1841 Alicia Gunthorpe aged 50 was living at Edwards Street, Marylebone with James Gunthorpe aged 50 'Ind' and 5 younger Gunthorpes (William, Janetta [sic] and three other daughters, Isabella, Louisa, and Caroline, presumably all her children), together with 4 servants and family members of one of the servants. Burial of Alicia Gunthorpe of Edwards Street aged 54 at St Marylebone 06/03/1843. In the will of Alicia Gunthorpe proved 21/03/1843 she left the lease of the house at 20 Edward Street Portman Square in trust 'to permit and suffer my brother-in-law Colonel James Gunthorpe to continue my interest in the lease', and then to her daughters; she also left £5000 from her marriage settlement to be divided among her children. Her residuary legatee was her son William (another son, John, was dead by 1843).

  4. Alicia Gunthorpe, the daughter of Rev. William Gunthorpe of Antigua [and of Alicia Gunthorpe nee Jackson] , married Sir Brodrick Hartwell 2nd bart., and died in 1859. The marriage took place at St Marylebone 28/10/1834 with the consent of Alicia Gunthorpe widow, the mother.
