Scottish soldier, an officer in the Portuguese army, awarded one-third of compensation for the enslaved people on Harmony Hill in St George Jamaica by virtue of his marriage.
Baptised 21/03/1787, son of William Rose and Mary Robinson. Married Catharine Waddell at Edinburgh in 1822. Two children baptised in St Andrew, Jamaica: Mary in 1824 and William Cumming in 1826.
Grave in St George's Cemetery, Lisbon: "Sacred to the memory of Lt Col Hugh Hay Rose late Captain H.M. 92nd Regt who died in Lisbon 17 April 1851 aged 64 years."
