Celia Scott (née King)

Sister of Maria Fleming (q.v.) and possibly also the sister of Anne Toby (q.v.); the three women were with their husbands were awarded half the compensation for 107 enslaved people on the Sherwood Park estate in Tobago having made a monetary claim for £3977 4s 4d (plus interest from 1819) under the will of Thos Bird dated 17/11/1791.

1. Celia King, b. 23 June 1796, Boston, Massachusetts; died Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia, 5 March 1879.

2. Marriage, 12/07/1821, "At Springbank, near Port-Glasgow, Andrew Scott, Esq. of Larchgrove, to Miss Celia King, daughter of the late Daniel King, Esq. of Tobago."

3. The Scott family settled at the Mount Buninyoing Station, Victoria, Australia, late in 1839. The station was established as a postal centre. Subsequently it became known as Scotsburn, named after them. Andrew and Celia Scott established a cattle farm of 16,000 acres. From 1843 the family began to run sheep and the family went on to purchase property in the western district of Victoria and in New South Wales.

4. Celia Scott, daughter of Daniel King and Ann Bird, died at Victoria, Australia, 1879 age 82. Daniel King and Ann Bird had another daughter born in Port Glasgow: "Daniel King merchant in Port Glasgow and Ann Bird his spouse had a lawful daughter born 1st Day of July 1804 called Christian".
