1788 - 4th Jan 1852
Acting Chief Justice of Trinidad when appointed executor of the will of Anthony Browne (q.v.) in 1837. Life dates are drawn from material surrounding a portrait by Sir Henry Raeburn thought to be of Lewis Farley Clogstoun Johnston in the Frick collection. Lewis Johnston's daughter Hannah Letitia married Col. Robert Stansfeld of The Breck, Sowerby, where Lewis Johnston's wife Jane died in 1842; Lewis Johnston himself died in the loss of Royal Mail ship Amazon en route to Trinidad in 1852.
A miniature identified as 'Portrait of Master Lewis Farley Johnston' by Henry Pelham (1749-1806), dated 1779, in the collection of the National Gallery of Ireland. The gallery's notes record an inscription: "on sticker (on verso of miniature frame): MASTER LEWIS FARLEY JOHNSTON FROM DROMOLAND CASTLE, LORD INCHIQUIN" and identify the sitter as the later "judge on the island of Trinidad."
Lewis J. C. Johnstone of Trinidad was listed as a subscriber to Charles Shepherd's An Historical Account of the Island of Saint Vincent, published in 1832.
The Charterhouse Register 1769 -1872 confirms his life dates,
