Bristol merchant, partner in Baillie, Ames and Baillie (q.v.). Son of Levi Ames and brother of Jeremiah Ames (q.v.) and of John Ames, the drysalter and banker and Lionel Lyde, the Bristol banker.
Baptised Bristol 07/12/1786. George Henry Ames late of Cote House near Bristol Gloucestershire died 20/07/1873 at Cote House, will proved by George Acland Ames of the Union Club Trafalgar Square; Charles Herbert Ames of Remmenham Place Berks.; Edward Levi Ames of Clevelands in parish of Axmouth Devon, the sons, three of the executors. Effects under £90,000.
Levi Ames (bap. 1739, d. 1820) and his father Jeremiah Ames (1706-1776) are in the ODNB as 'bankers and merchants.' The entry is silent on Jeremiah Ames' recorded slave voyages.
