Awarded one moiety (one-half) of the compensation for the enslaved people on Cassada Garden in Antigua. Abraham Redwood (q.v.) his cousin claimed unsuccessfully for the other half. Son of Abraham Redwood of Queen Anne Street (1728-1806) and grandson of Abraham Redwood of Newport (q.v.). In Britain at the time of compensation but of Flushing, Queens, NY in the US when he made his will.
Grandson of Abraham Redwood of the Redwood Library in Newport Rhode Island. Marriage of Langford Redwood and Eleonora Williamson 01/05/1810; Will of Langford Redwood of Flushing in the county of Queens, state of New York United States of America proved 04/09/1844. The will left most of his personal estate to his natural son William with his contingent heir his godson Langford W. L. Redwood 'formerly known as John Wickham Redwood Ledeatt', to whom he left his share in Cassada Garden.
Caribbeana records a memorial to Eleonora Redwood, wife of Langford Redwood Esq., who died at Clifton 23/05/1842 in the 66th year of her age. The same entry also notes from Gentleman's Magazine the death aged 27 'suddenly on his passage from Antigua', of Langford W. L. Redwood esq., of Cassada Gardens, son-in-law of Miles Brathwaite of Hythe Kent.
T71/877 Antigua nos. 103 & 104 (Cassada Garden), which shows him as of No 33 York Crescent, Clifton, Gloucestershire; Vere Langford Oliver, History of Antigua Vol. III p. 44.
Some genealogical sources give him as 'Jonas Langford Redwood' but this appears to be confusion with his cousin (who in turn is sometimes given as 'Jonas Redwood').
London and Surrey, England Marriage Bonds and Allegations 1597-1921; PROB 11/2004. There is a baptism record for William Redwood, son of Langford and Lucy Redwood of Marylebone, St Marylebone 17/12/1820, at Ancestry.com, London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906 [database online], but this indication of marriage for the parents is not consistent with the will of Langford Redwood himself.
Vere Langford Oliver, Caribbeana being miscellaneous papers relating to the history, genealogy, topography, and antiquities of the British West Indies (6 vols., London, Mitchell, Hughes and Clarke, 1910-1919) Vol. III pp. 42-3. The entry refers to Abraham Redwood born 1728 who had a son Langford living in the US in 1829.
