John Binny

Representative of Robert Dall, owner of Cedar Valley in St George, Jamaica. Of 23 India Street, Edinburgh, in 1835.

It is not clear exactly to which J. Binny this refers. Graham Binny/Binnie (1800-82), Writer to the Signet, was listed at 23 India Street in 1832/33. He resided at 6South West Circus Place, Edinburgh (sold 1831) and then 5 Danube Street, Edinburgh. In 1837 he is listed at 27 India St., Edinburgh and died at 9 Hart Street, Edinburgh. Married to Marianne Kyd, and their son, John Binny (1837-73) also became a Writer to the Signet (1861). He married Euphemia Bremner or Crole on 29/08/1861, eldest daughter of the late David Crole Solicitor to the Inland Revenue, Edinburgh. Together they had two children Graham Binny of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours and Euphemia Graham Binny (c.1871-1941). John Binny was living at 20 Leopold Place Edinburgh at the time of his death.

Alternatively, John Binny of Forneth who died 15/09/1841 (when his address was given as 14 Moray Place, Edinburgh) and whose affairs were managed by his cousin Graham Binny. This John Binny was formerly a merchant in Madras and partner in the firm Binny & amp; Co., with his cousin, also John Binny (1769-1824). John Binny of Forneth died unmarried, which does not match the information given in the compensation records.
