London West India merchant, claimed unsuccessfully with his father John Atkins (q.v.) for two awards; his father was successful in a number of other claims.
Son of John Atkins (1760-1838), the Lord Mayor 1818-9. Memorial in Halstead Churchyard describes him as 'founder of this cemetery'.
Born 19/03/1790, son of John and Sarah Atkins. His father later married Anna Maria née Burnaby. Partner with his father from about 1815. Married 1825 Anna (1799-1871), daughter of John George Children; she is in the ODNB as 'botanist and photographic artist'. Died without issue: John Pelly Atkins' property passed to his wife's family, two of whom were his executors. Left £160,000.
