Biography

Son of William Alleyne Culpeper (1760-1810) and Mary Webb (born before 1765- ), both of Barbados.

  1. Born St Joseph, Barbados c. 1792. Married Martha Carteretta Straker (née Valpy) St Martin-in-the-Fields 18-21/11/1815; died 29/01/1870 33 Avenue d'Antibes Paris; of 17 Lansdowne Crescent Notting Hill, will proved by Stephen Walcott the nephew sole executor, effects under £20. In 1841 William Culpeper 'merchant' aged 48 is shown at 42 Harley Street Cavendish Square with Martha Culpeper aged 60 and 8 servants.

  2. Martha Carteretta Straker was the widow of Thomas James Straker who, in his will signed in 1813 and proved in 1814, made Martha his residuary legatee, in default to his brother-in-law Richard Valpy, eldest son of Rev. Dr. Valpy of Reading, Berkshire.
