Probably Nathaniel Weekes Pollard (1814-), son of Nathaniel Weekes Pollard (1792-1834), but possibly the father, although the award was not made until January 1836. Nathaniel Weekes Pollard the father reportedly died of cholera in August 1834 in France. The son, an engineer, educated at Charterhouse then Rugby, was superintendent in the Public Works Trinidad before emigrating to Australia.
Will of Nathaniel Weeks Pollard of Demerara proved 16/06/1837. Under the will, made 26/03/1834, 'The Negroes that are registered in the names of my several children are hereby declared to belong to them.' He left to his mother-in-law Sarah Bradford the hire of 'certain negroes' until the expiration of their Apprenticeship, and the compensation related to them. 'It is my earnest wish that my timber concern should be continued and carried on by my executors....as long as it appears that the return made thereon is commensurate with the capital employed.' He left his estate equally to his children. The will identifed his deceased wife as Sarah Alleyne Pollard and his present wife as Jane Williams Pollard.
In 1817, N.W Pollard had registered 21 enslaved people 'in nomine uxoris (Sarah A. Pollard)' and 62 in his own name.
The Charterhouse Register confirms that this was probably Nathaniel Weekes Pollard (1814-), son of Nathaniel Weekes Pollard (1792-1834). Became Superintendent of Public Works, Trinidad; later Civil Engineer, Victoria Railway Deptartment, Australia. In 1838 married Mary Elizabeth, 1st daughter of Edward Hillier of Gray's Inn. Author of Homes in Victoria: Or, the British Emigrant’s Guide to Victoria (Melbourne, 1861).
