Biography

Liverpool merchant, partner in John Crosthwaite & Co. (Liverpool, q.v.) and Wulff, Brown and Company (Berbice), awarded the compensation for the enslaved people on Vryberg plantation, apparently as owner, for a further 14 enslaved people again as owner and, with others, for the enslaved people on Kilcoy as trustees of Leonora Lynch (q.v.), all in British Guiana.  

  1. A John Crosthwaite of Liverpool was bankrupt in 1850. In 1851 John Crosthwaite West India merchant aged 58 born Cumberland was living at Woolton Hill Much Woolton Lancashire with his wife Frances aged 46 and six young children between 2 and 9, including Arthur aged 4, all born Woolton. This was the John Crosthwaite late of Southport who died 09/07/1866 and the administration of whose estate was granted to his son Arthur Crosthwaite stockbroker of Mayfield Wavertree 10/09/1883, effects £543 10s 1d. Arthur Crosthwaite (who died in 1925) was Lord Mayor of Liverpool in 1900 and 1901 and left £70,000 at his death.
