Edward Carlton Whitlock

Son of George Whitlock of Ottery St Mary, Devon and later of Heavitree Devon. Edward Carlton Whitlock's brother Hubert (1801-c. 1838) reportedly bought an estate in Demerara with Walter Urquhart (q.v.) in 1830.

1. In the will of Hubert Whitlock proved 01/12/1838 he identifies the estate bought jointly with Walter Urquhart at vendue in 1830 as 'Pln de Kinderen situated on the east bank of Mahaica Creekin this colony'. Hubert Whitlock said that he felt 'duty bound' to leave the estate and the enslaved people on it to 'the coloured woman Maria Sheppherd and her children Maria, Rebecca, and Sarah and Barbara (twins) and to Mary and Jane my children by the black woman Clarissa Styles.'
