Claim Notes

Parliamentary Papers p. 101.

The name of Robert Metcalfe Atkinson is given incorrectly as Robert 'Metcalf' Atkinson in the Parliamentary Papers.

T71/881: see Dominica claim no. 4.

T71/881: the awardees were remaindermen: 'Authority from claimant for payment of her share of comp to Robert Metcalfe Atkinson etc.'

T71/1593: letter to Baxendale, Tatham (Lancashire), Upton & Johnson, Gt Winchester St (London), stating that 'distinct assent' was required from Mrs Metcalfe, the tenant for life to the remaindermen.

See also Dominica claim no. 275 for E. Metcalfe as an absentee.

T71/1609: letter, dated 04/12/1835, from Baxendale, Tatham, referring to Dominica claim nos. 5 and 275. States that E. Metcalfe was a tenant for life, with no trustees. According to the 4th Rule, the Commissioners might name trustees, 'but the parties who are intitled in remainder expectant on Mrs M's death, have come to an understanding with her, for an immediate division of the fund, which would render it unnecessary to appoint trustees'.
