T71/856: original claim by James Sadler, St Mary, owner-in-fee. 'John Sheppard Swindon Wilts' counterclaimed ''as Trustee by virtue of Indenture made on the marriage of James and Lucy Sadler 28 Jany 1818 for £10,000'. James Sadler 'by Lucy Sadler wife and agent' admitted the counterclaim on 23/09/1835. 2nd trustee added.
T71/1179: original parties to indenture were John Sheppard, Lucy Kibblewhite, William Kibblewhite (of Liddiard Millicent, Wiltshire, Lucy's father and since deceased), James Kibblewhite (of Gray's Inn Place) and George Kibblewhite (of Gray's Inn Place, since deceased).
The Tourist: A Literary and Anti-slavery Journal 14/01/1833, p. 164: report about Alexander Kelly, an enslaved person on Wey Hill, who was flogged to death in punishment for refusing to obey an order in late 1832, with the apparent consent of his manager Alexander Gilzean (q.v.).
