1791 - 8th Oct 1850
"Yesterday, at St George the Martyr's, Queen-square, James Sadler, Esq. of Weyhill and Fort Morrison Plantations in Jamaica, to Miss Kibblewhite of Liddiard, near Wootton Bassett, sister to one of the last Representatives returned for that Borough."
James Sadler owned Weyhill estate in St Mary, Jamaica. The compensation for enslaved people on the estate was awarded to the trustees of his marriage settlement by indenture for £10,000. The original parties to indenture were John Sheppard, Lucy Kibblewhite, William Kibblewhite (of Liddiard Millicent, Wiltshire, Lucy's father and since deceased), James Kibblewhite (of Gray's Inn Place) and George Kibblewhite (of Gray's Inn Place, since deceased); James Kibblewhite and George Kibblewhite were Lucy's brothers. John Sheppard was presumably a relation as James Sadler's grandmother Hannah's maiden surname was Sheppard.
James Kibblewhite of 2 Gray's Inn Place, Middlesex, Lucy's brother, was MP for Wootton Bassett 1812-1813. History of Parliament online gives their parents as William Kibblewhite of The Close, Lydiard Millicent, near Wootton Bassett and Eleanor nee Barrett of Lydiard Millicent.
Lucy Sadler, age 49, was living in Highgate with her children George age 20, Harriet age 19 and Enna [Emily?] age 17 in the census of 1841.
Lucy Sadler, widow of James Sadler of Jamaica died at Highgate, 08/10/1850 age 59. Lucy Sadler of Park Place, Highgate, was buried 17/10/1850 age 59 years.
Lucy Kibblewhite had previously married Daniel Rowland 25/06/1807 at St George the Martyr's, Queen's Square, but divorced him in the cause Kibblewhite vs. Rowland in 1817. "The divorce case of KIBBLEWHITE against ROWLAND is a famous case in which it was decided whether "Parties English", and married and domiciled in England, should be able to be granted a divorce under the law in Scotland when the defender had been cited for adultery during a visit to Scotland of six or seven weeks. The Consistorial Court dismissed the action, but, on appeal, the Court of Review remitted the case to the Commissaries of the lower court to proceed in granting the divorce."
