Death of Gilbert Mathison junior, start of the annuity of £600 p.a. to Catherine Mathison. In 1830, investigations showed that the first mortgage on the estate pre-dated her marriage settlement, meaning that the new owner Rev. Walter Stevenson Halliday was not obliged to pay the annuity. In fact he paid a part of it, when circumstances permitted, 'out of consideration to Mrs Mathison'.
