Notes

Langley estate was surveyed by Smellie and Sheriff in 1780. Their plan showed an animal and a water mill, this layout was confirmed in James Robertson's map of 1804. Water for the mill came from the head of the Negro River which flowed 2 miles to the north, it also passed through Trinity Estate. The boiling house was far from the water mill at Langley, Higman suggests this indicated it might not have been widely used after 1780.
