The dates listed below have different categories as denoted by the letters in the brackets following each date. Here is a key to explain those letter codes:
|
1832 [SY] - → Attorney
William Casey filed the return for the 1832 Trelawny slave register in his capacity as attorney to John Mitchell. |
1762 [EA] - 1763 [LA] → Previous owner
|
1766 [EA] - 1779 [LA] → Owner
|
1798 [EA] - 1823 [EY] → Owner
William Mitchell died in 1823 leaving his Jamaica possessions to his nephew John Mitchell. The Jamaica Almanacs continued to list William as the owner after his death up until the 1826 edition (which was based on the givings in from the March Quarter 1825). Thereafter and up until the abolition of slavery in 1833 the property was listed as belonging to the 'heirs of William Mitchell.' |
1832 [EA] - → Tenant-for-life
William Mitchell died in 1823 leaving his Jamaica property to his nephew John Mitchell. The Jamaica Almanac listed George's Valley as under the ownership of the 'heirs of William Mitchell' between 1826 and 1833. The 1832 slave register for Trelawny recorded John Mitchell as the 'Tenant for life'. |
