Biography

Anna Maria Saurin (née Massy-Dawson, was Poore), wife of Robert Montagu Poore (q.v.) and daughter of James Hewitt Massy-Dawson (q.v.), who inherited a share in Prospect Pen and Pembroke Hall estates in Jamaica from her mother Eliza Jane Dennis.

  1. Born 22/10/1807 in Marylebone, Middlesex, to James Hewitt Massy-Dawson and Eliza Jane Dennis. Married Robert Montagu Poore in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey, 16/05/1833. According to the censuses of 1871, 1881 and 1891, their son Robert was born in Naples, Italy, in 1834. Her first husband died 09/04/1837 and on 09/02/1839 she married Mark Anthony Saurin. Died 15/05/1865 at Caryfort House, Blackrock, Dublin, leaving effects in England under £7000.

  2. Robert Montagu Poore claimed her share of Prosect Pen and Pembroke Hall estates. Her aunt Maria Frances Pallmer, her brothers Rev. John Massy-Dawson, Capt. James Massy-Dawson, Robert Bolton Massy-Dawson and Charles Nicholas Pallmer Massy-Dawson, and her sisters Isabella Pallmer Massy-Dawson and Louisa Massy-Dawson were co-claimants.

  3. Papers relating to the Poore Family of Coombe, Endford and the Saurin family of Blackrock, Co. Dublin are held at Wiltshire and Swindon Archives, including: "Settlement of stock after the marriage of John Montagu Poore of West End Cottage, Herts., and Elizabeth (née Chauncy) his wife, 1804; with subsequent deeds of appointment of new trustees under the above settlement, 1816, 1835"; "Settlement before the marriage of Robert Montagu Poore of Coombe in Enford and Anna Maria Massey Dawson of the Glen of Aherlow, Tipperary, Ireland, and of Gloucester Place, Portman Square, London, 1833"; "Copy probate of the will of Robert Montagu Poore of West Park, Hants., and subsequently of Beaumaris, Anglesey, 1834, with codicil 1836, proved P.C.C. 1837."
