Biography

Eliza W. Hay née Samuells (often also given as Samuels), inherited a 'small patrimony' from her father which was then mortgaged to her brother Paul Stevens Samuells (q.v.).

  1. 'Captain Charles Hay of the Navy and Miss Eliza W. Samuels of Jamaica spinster, presently at Glassaugh contracted and were married' in 1801.

Hay dated 27/12/1833 from 20 Back Wynd, Aberdeen: has claim 'for the small patrimony left me by my father for which his estate, now my brother's, is burdened..' Letter from Oliverson dated 27/03/1835: stating that Mrs E.W. Hay of Elgin, Scotland, has a mortgage on estate, mortgagors are Mr Paul Steven Samuells and Isabella his wife, Samuells is the brother of Mrs Hay.
