1789 - 1849
Awarded the compensation with his brother-in-law Vere Fane (q.v.) and Rev. James Ellice as mortgagees of Clark's Court on Grenada. The men with Edward Ellice (q.v.) also claimed as mortgagees for the Huis T'Dieren estate in British Guiana. It is not clear whether they were beneficiaries or, as seems more likely, trustees.
Son of Charles Chaplin (1759-1816) MP and Elizabeth Taylor, of Blankney. Born 1789. Married Caroline Horatia Ellice, daughter of William Ellice, 19/08/1834. Vicar of Ryhall, Lincolnshire. One daughter, 3 sons including Henry Chaplin 1st Viscount Chaplin (q.v.).
Will of Rev. Henry Chaplin of Ryhall Rutland proved 10/05/1849.
T71/880 Grenada claim no. 466 (Clark's Court). In addition, Vere Fane, Henry Chaplin, Edward Ellice and James Ellice counterclaimed, apparently unsuccessfully, as mortgagees against Lt-Gen John Murray, T71/887 British Guiana claim no. 2280.
