Son of Thomas Stapleton 22nd Baron Le Despencer or Despenser [also given as 12th Lord Le Despenser] and of Elizabeth, a daughter of Samuel Elliott of Antigua, and deceased husband of Ann Byam Stapleton née Kerby (q.v.), the daughter of Thomas Norbury Kerby and Jane Byam.
Brother of Emma Stapleton (d. 1879) who married Charles Brodrick 6th Viscount Midleton (1797-1863).
Matriculated Worcester College Oxford 1819, BA Magdalene Cambridge 1827, Rector Mereworth and Vicar Tudeley Kent 1827 until death 11/06/1830.
Elizabeth Despencer nee Elliott (or Eliot), the mother of Miles J. Stapleton, was the sister of Ann Eliot (d. 1793), whose husband Sir Henry Augustus Montagu Cosby (1743-1822) has an entry in the ODNB as 'army officer in the East India Company.'
