Biography

Nephew of John Ewer and Walter Ewer I, the son of their sister Barbara Ewer and Alexander Kidston (who married in 1760).

  1. Alexander Kidston (father of this entry) married Barbra Euer 15/08/1760 in Kilsyth. Their son Alexander was baptised in Falkirk, 09/01/1763 (mother's surname given as Ure). His mother was the daughter of Henry Ure of Wester Tagestown, Kilsyth, and his wife Agnes Grahame.

  2. James and Elizabeth Kidston, "mulattos", the children of Alexander Kidston, baptised at the Bogg 21/01/1796. Kidston was resident in Jamaica in the 1810s, appearing as an executor for the will of Thomas Winder of St Ann's dated 30/06/1815 and as a Churchwarden in St Ann's (Jamaica Almanac 1817). By 1843 at the latest (and probably in the 1820s) he had returned to Edinburgh, where the will of Alexander Kidston of Jamaica residing at No. 22 Queen Street Edinburgh' SC70/1/71 is recorded on his death 15/08/1850.

  3. An 'Account outstanding' in Chancery case of Alexander Kidston deceased in matter of trusts under the will of, account of Jane Kidston Campbell, was recorded as late as 1896. When Jane Kidston or Campbell died intestate in Edinburgh 30/12/1876 leaving £4935 5s 6d, she was identified as the widow of Donald Campbell late of Jamaica
