James Vose MD of Liverpool, awarded the compensation for the enslaved people on Green Vale and Greenhill in Manchester Jamaica. The estate had belonged to his wife's uncle James White of Liverpool (q.v.).
In 1851 Eliza Sarah Vose aged 58 gentlewoman born Jamaica was living at 5 Gambier Terrace Liverpool with son James, physician of Edinburgh University, practising in Liverpool (where he was born) aged 40, and a household of visitors and servants. In 1861 they were still at the same address. A James Vose MD was shown at 66 Bold Street in 1823. James Vose of Hope Street was buried aged 56 at Christchurch Liverpool 11/05/1844.
Marriage of James Vose Doctor of Medicine and Eliza Sarah White at St Nicholas Liverpool 07/12/1809. There is a second entry for what appears to be the same couple on 15/02/1811 at St Peter Liverpool. It appears Eliza Sarah White was a minor at the time of the first ceremony, and the couple may therefore have reformalised the marriage.
Letters of administration for the estate of Eliza Sarah Vose who died at 5 Gambier Terrace 15/05/1865 granted 18/11/1865 by James Richard White Vose MD the son and only next of kin, effects under £16,000.
James Vose, M.D., was buried at Toxteth Park Cemetery. His memorial inscription gives him as the "first Professor of Anatomy in the Liverpool Royal Insititution, a favourite pupil of Charles Bell, and of Astley Paston Cooper", died May 1844.
James Richard White Vose (1811-1878) was President of the BMA and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
