Planter of Westmoreland when he married Susannah Elizabeth Calame of Westmoreland, spinster, 05/04/1772. She and her sister Mary (who married Andrew White, q.v.) were daughters of Peter Frederick Calame of Westmoreland, merchant, and his wife Elizabeth Hopkins. Susannah Elizabeth was baptised 23/03/1755; Mary was baptised 26/03/1758.
Will of James White [formerly of Greenhill in St Elizabeth Jamaica but now] of Liverpool proved 18/08/1818. In a codicil of 1818 he recommended his executors continued with James Davy of Wear in Manchester as attorney for the Jamaica estates. Some lines in the early part of the will appear to be missing since it describes his niece Eliza Sarah Vose as 'Doctor Physic', which must apply to her husband James Vose instead. He left his dwelling house in Queen Anne Street in Liverpool that he had purchased of Margaret Daulby widow and Edward Walker, together with other property in Britain, in trust for the benefit of Eliza Sarah Vose, formerly White, daughter of his brother Andrew White. He left land in Jamaica known as Powers [?] Run at Hectors River to his nephew Andrew White the younger son of his brother Andrew, together with £150. He gave other monetary legacies totalling some £900 to family members [he and his brother Andrew had married sisters]. He left Greenhill 'including the two Downers Runs and the Cargill Run' and his estate called Green Vale in Mile Gully in St Elizabeth in trust for Eliza Sarah Vose and then to James Vose. He freed his 'old an faithful negro slave Princess' and left her a parcel of land for a 'negro house' to be built for her. He left his 'black servant' Susanna Appleton formerly Susanna Vidal £10 p.a.
James White's will makes no mention of a brother named John White, but a newspaper report of the death of John's son James in 1814 gives James as "son of the Hon. John White, Custos of [St Elizabeth], and nephew of Mr James White, of Liverpool." This may or may not be the same James White of Liverpool.
