1817 - 1854
Jessamina Eccles, "a quadroon child" daughter of Eleanor Anderson was baptised at Vauxhall 31/07/1817. Her father was George Knowles Eccles. Jesse Eccles, "out door pauper" of Spanish Town was buried 29/12/1854 in burial ground no. 2, St Catherine, Jamaica.
Mary Eccles nee Rennalls, mother of George Knowles Eccles, died 01/11/1820 and in her will, proven in 1821, she wrote “I do hereby give and bequeath unto two natural children of colour of my aforesaid son George Knowles Eccles begotten of Eleanor Anderson a free woman of colour and named Henry Eccles and Jessy Eccles the sum of 50 pounds each.”
Jessy Eccles inherited three enslaved people from her mother - Robert Sinclair, age 7, Charlotte Anderson, [no age given] and Bella age 3 years 6 months - at some point between 1826 and 1829. Charlotte Anderson was the mother of Robert Sinclair and Bella. Charlotte's other children - Edward, age 11, George age 1 3/4 and Ann age 9 years 7 months - became the property of Jessy's brother Henry Eccles at the same time.
