Biography

Daughter of Frederick Ferdinand Hill and sister of John Hill and Emeline Innes Hill. Probably the daughter of Favell Scott, who was certainly the mother of Emeline Innes Hill. All three children were the heirs of Favell Scott and slave-owners in St Thomas-in-the-East, Jamaica. Jane was in Britain as a minor by at least 1817 and Emeline was probably a governess in South Wales from at least 1851 to 1861.

  1. A memorial in Mount Jerome Cemetery probably refers to this woman (Favell Scott's mother was Jane Anderson, so this was presumably a namesake of the grandmother ): 'Also of | JANE ANDERSON | widow of |STEPHEN HOWSE BROWNE Esq. M.D. | Gorey, Co. Wexford | She fell asleep September 8 1891 | aged 82 years And of her sister |EMMALINE INNES | youngest daughter of the Late | FREDERICK FERDINAND HILL Esq. J.P. | of Soho and Healthful Hill, Jamaica | who fell asleep Novr. 9 1896 aged 81.'
