Claimed 'slave compensation' as owner of Soho estate in St Thomas-in-the-East and as executor of Newall Berwick (q.v.) for the compensation for a group of enslaved people at Morant Bay Jamaica. Captain of the Blue Mountain troop in the Surrey Regiment of Horse in the 1824 Jamaica Almanac, and apparently resident in Jamaica at the time of Emancipation, but with several of his children - probably of mixed heritage - appearing in records for Britain and Ireland later in the 19th century.
