Harry Irvine Hall was the great-grandson of William Melmoth the Elder 1655 -1743 (a lawyer and the author of 'The Importance of a Religious Life'). Hall's mother Sophia Melmoth married Joseph Hall 15/11/1729 in Fleet, Westminster; the residence for both parties was given as Ealing. Sophia and Joseph Hall had at least three daughters and a son called William Hall (1731-1794) who became a sugar refiner in Kingston Jamaica.
William Hall married Margaret Parker (daughter of James Parker, merchant) as his second wife 02/03/1773 at St Johns in Jamaica and they had ten children between 1774 and 1792. Henry Irvine Hall was the eldest surviving son of this union and was baptised 06/05/1779 in Kingston. Jamaica.
In the 1824 Jamaica Almanac civil lists for Surrey in the City and Parish of Kingston Harry Irvine Hall is listed as an assistant Judge or Magistrate. He was a partner of Nicholas Francis Norton.
Hall married Maria Lambert in St James's Picadilly, London, 24/09/1847 and the family can be found in the 1851 census living at 67 York Road Lambeth with five children, all with the middle name Lambert and the surname as Hall, but only the two youngest were born after he married Maria. Harry Irvine Hall gave his occupation as proprietor of houses in Jamaica, annuitant in England & a holder of railway shares.
Harry Irvine Hall was a nephew of Constantia Hall of Ormskirk and a brother to Fanny Whitehorne, Sussanah Peachey and Charles Hill Hall, who was father to Emily and Ellen Hall who wrote the Hall Diaries.
He died 25/11/1858 at 67 York Road, Lambeth and the National Probate Calendar states he was from Jamaica and Bury St Edmunds and late of 67 York Road Lambeth. He was left un-administered by Maria Hall widow; the residuary legatee Harry Lambert Hall of 25 Whithead Grove Chelsea was granted probate at the Principal Registry as he was the administrator of the effects of Maria Hall. Harry Irvine Hall's estate was valued at under £200.

For family background and relationships: Harry Irvine Hall was named as a nephew of Constantia Hall of Ormskirk and received an annuity of £100 in her will, proved in 1830 (PROB 11/1772); Harry Irvine Hall and his siblings Fanny Constantia Whitehorne, Sussanah Peachey and Charles Hill Hall were named in the will of their mother Margaret Hall, proved in 1843 (PROB 11/1975).
