Biography

Slave-owner on Jamaica, former co-owner of Hordley, trustee of Elizabeth Scott (the widow of John Scott of Jamaica), and brother of John Scott and of Vice Admiral Matthew Henry Scott (q.v.), who was also a trustee under the same awards.

  1. The will of George Scott of Lymington Hampshire was proved 30/10/1844. Under the will he left his estate after minor monetary legacies half to his son George Erving Scott and half to George Erving Scott's grandchildren. The will does not clearly identify Jamaica property, but identifies his executors as his nephews Rev. Matthew Robert Scott and George Frederick Cooper Scott [both known to be children of Matthew Henry Scott].

  2. Descendants include Walter Scott (1855-1925), the son of George Erving Scott, who has an entry in the Australian Dictionary of Biography as 'classical scholar'; and Helen Maud Cam (1885-1968), the grand-daughter of George Erving Scott, who has an entry in the ODNB as 'historian.
